Civil Clerk/Bond Clerk

This position processes the set-up, maintenance, scheduling, and resolution of all cases brought to the Civil Division of the Court. This position is also responsible to accept all payments of fines & costs and reporting daily receipts to the Court Clerk as well as daily deposits of checks and currency to the City Treasurer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Civil Clerk
  1. Process all civil/small claims complaints and answers.
  2. Create docket and schedules court proceedings for Civil Branch.
  3. Processes garnishments, writs of execution and appeals.
  4. Creates all correspondence and maintains record ledger.
  5. Responds to all counter, telephone and written inquiries.
  6. Prepares month's end reports, reconciles both civil and small claims accounts; processes checks as needed and submits to Judge & Clerk for signature(s).
  7. Works closely with the Civil Judge and process server.
  8. Assists the misdemeanor/traffic court when necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Bond Clerk
  1. Collects monies from bonds, fines, costs and restitution; prepares daily deposit (including credit card payments) and submits to the Chief Clerk & City Treasurer daily.
  2. Maintains checking account(s) for the Civil and Small Claims divisions; reconciles account and generates monthly report for Chief Clerk.
  3. Performs clerical duties such as answering the telephone, shredding, typing, making copies, faxing, and assisting the public with any general questions.
  4. Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

High School diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with employees, citizens and other agencies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include; close, distant and color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is/may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and works near moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to quiet.
