GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

To contribute to the efficient operation of a school office so that it can play an effective part in the education process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Help maintain a positive school image by properly hosting all visitors.


  1. Operate standard office machines and perform general school related secretarial duties.


  1. Process all correspondence relating to suspensions, follow-ups, and expulsions.


  1. Prepare and distribute all school forms and handbooks.


  1. Prepare and distribute all school bulletins.


  1. Check students in and out.


  1. Process all messages, incoming and outgoing mail.


  1. Be certified to administer first aid to control contagious or emergency medical problems in the absence of the school nurse.


  1. Responsible for the training and overseeing of the office aides.


  1. Secure buses for athletic events and field trips.


  1. Assist with enrollment of new students.


  1. Assist substitute teachers by providing class and school related information.


  1. Assist with the management of AESOP.


  1. Assist with student absence management


  1. Support end of the year functions.


  1. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.
