Key Responsibilities
• Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment of diverse sizes and weights across various quarry and construction tasks.
• Adhere strictly to all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations, ensuring a safe work environment.
• Promptly report any equipment or operational issues to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
• Execute daily tasks as directed by the Foreman, meeting project or jobsite expectations.
• Perform routine servicing and minor maintenance on equipment; escalate major issues to supervisors as necessary.
• Complete thorough pre- and post-operation inspections with proper documentation, maintaining compliance with company protocols.
• Assist in mentoring and training less-experienced team members in equipment operation, servicing, and repair to enhance team capabilities.
• Take on general labor duties as required to support overall operations.
• Maintain regular, reliable attendance and promptness at assigned work times.
• Fulfill additional duties assigned to meet evolving operational needs.
Qualifications
• Capability to perform all essential duties listed above with competence and professionalism.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in heavy equipment operation.
Work Requirements
• Demonstrated ability to safely and efficiently operate a broad range of equipment in varying conditions.
• Proficiency in basic math, reading, and writing for accurate record-keeping and comprehension of construction documents and blueprints.
• Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions with clarity.
• Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with strong interpersonal skills.
• Capable of operating complex equipment with independent judgment and skill.
• Minimum age of 18 years is required.
• Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background check is mandatory.
• Strict observance of all safety requirements as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
• Willingness to collaborate within a team and assist colleagues and supervisors as needed.
• Flexible to travel and work away from home, including nights and weekends, as project demands arise.
• Consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face shield, safety footwear, and coveralls in compliance with OSHA/MSHA and company guidelines.
Knowledge and Skills
• In-depth understanding of heavy equipment operation.
• Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and tools.
• Awareness of typical hazards and safety practices within heavy equipment operations and quarry environments.
• Knowledge of trenching and shoring protocols and standards.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
• Frequently required to climb, balance, and perform tasks involving physical agility.
• Regularly sit, climb, and use hand signals or equipment; occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, or reach above shoulder height.
• Lift and move objects weighing up to 25-50 lbs as needed.
• Work primarily outdoors, often in extreme weather and environmental conditions.
• Comfortable working in all weather conditions; exposed to jobsite hazards such as moving machinery, high places, airborne particles, and loud environments.
• Must have specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, to operate equipment safely.
