Financial Controller

Description:

TurningArt is a growing company with plans to expand organically and through acquisition, and were seeking an exceptionally detail-oriented, hands-on Controller to lead the financial and accounting operations of our business. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives on building and managing processes and systems to deliver consistent results that drive growth. Youll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, both in-house and remote, to ensure our financial operations are a strategic strength for the business. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a creative, entrepreneurial environment where systems and strategy go hand-in-hand.

This role is based in Boston, MA at our headquarters office and reports to the CEO. Sponsorship is not currently available for this role, and the offer is contingent upon candidate's receipt and maintenance of work authorization.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, working capital, and banking relationships to maintain liquidity.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present financial statements and management reports to leadership.
  • Oversee AP/AR, payroll, and general ledger accounting, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes; monitor budget vs. actuals and explain variances.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with external CPA firm on tax filings and audit preparation.
  • Oversight of bookkeepers and outside finance consultants.
  • Manage insurance policies, renewals, and risk management in coordination with brokers.
  • Manage payroll processing, benefits administration, and support basic HR functions.
  • Develop and refine internal controls, policies, and procedures as the company scales.
  • Support ad-hoc analysis to inform operational and strategic decisions (e.g., pricing, margin analysis, investment planning).
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including managing accounting operations.
  • Experience in small to mid-sized businesses (ideally $5MM$50MM).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar accounting systems.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to see the big picture and provide strategic insights.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Extensive experience developing, implementing, and optimizing financial processes and protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a lean environment.
  • Comfortable in a hybrid work environment, with regular in-office presence in Boston required.
